At the event, Her Royal Highness also launched the Association of Cancer Networks of Selangor and Federal Territory (KanWork) Waqf, donations based on a waqf concept to help fund various programmes for cancer patients.
The arrival of the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor was accompanied by KanWork Chairman Dr. Mazanah Muhamad; the wife of Selangor Menteri Besar, Masdiana Muhamad; and Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof. Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris.
The launching of the books published by KanWork was made in conjunction with KanWork Charity Hi Tea 2019 organised by KanWork in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), War on Cancer Malaysia and UPM Alumni Association.
Her Royal Highness, who is also the Royal Patron of KanWork, was also pleased to receive a replica of a cheque worth RM49,001, contributed by various parties.
According to Dr. Mazanah, they organised the KanWork Charity Hi Tea with an aim at raising funds to help cancer patients, their families and caretakers.
“KanWork is a registered non-governmental organisation (NGO) that actively provides emotional and spiritual supports to patients, in addition to raising awareness of the fight against the disease. Nevertheless, we face major challenges in carrying out various activities due to the limited funds”.
"Among the activities organised were establishing a support group that makes visits to hospitals and homes and offering a Helpline, 1-8000-22-8672," she said.
She said KanWork was founded 14 years ago to provide information and support to cancer patients and to raise awareness about early cancer prevention.
