TANJUNG MALIM, August 14– Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) aims for 40 gold medals in the 2022 Institutions of Higher Learning Games (SUKIPT), which will be held at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) from August 12 to 21.
UPM Sports Academy Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tajularipin Sulaiman, said the UPM contingent will strive to defend the championship achieved in 2018 that was held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
"A total of 40 gold medals are targeted by the UPM contingent, and among the sports expected to contribute gold medals are Rugby 7s, archery and Karate-do.
"In this SUKIPT’s edition, UPM is participating in 21 events with the strength of a team of 392 people, including athletes and UPM staff," he said.
To date, UPM has obtained six gold medals, one silver medal and five bronze medals.
At that time, UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, had the opportunity to attend the Opening Ceremony of SUKIPT 2022 officiated by the Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, at UPSI, today.
Also present were the Minister of Higher Education, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, the Deputy Minister of Education I, Dato' Dr. Mah Hang Soon, the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato' Saarani Mohamad, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu and the Chairman of the Board of Principals of the Residential Colleges, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amini Amir Abdullah.- UPM
