SERDANG, Dec 4 – Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has officially launched the Siswi Girl Guides Association (Persatuan Pandu Puteri Siswi) here.
Tunku Azizah who is the Royal Patron of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (PPPM), urged the management of all public and private higher learning institutions (HEIs), and polytechnic colleges to establish their own PPPM’s Siswi Girl Guides so that the association can be joined by many more university students.
“So far we only have PPPM’s Siswi Girl Guides at five public universities in the country. We hope to increase more members from the total number for 2018 which is 834,” said Her Majesty.
The five public universities are UPM, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNiMAP).
At the event, Her Majesty was accompanied by PPPM Deputy President, Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Al-Marhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and PPPM Chief Commissioner, Datuk Jayadhevi Subramaniam.
A total of 3,000 students made up of UPM students, students from other higher learning institutions (IPT), as well as students from secondary and primary schools attended the event.
The event was another historic moment made for UPM and PPPM.
UPM has always encouraged students to be active in associations and to carry out activities that involve the community outside besides focusing on their studies alone.
UPM hopes that the Siswi Girl Guides will be well received by university students all over Malaysia, and they will register as a member of the Siswi Girl Guides in their respective universities and higher learning institutions.
As a member of the Siswi Girl Guides under PPPM, students will gain various benefits. Malaysia is the only country that incorporated the Girl Guides Association under the Parliament Act in 1958. – UPM
