LONDON - A total of 22 students of Diploma in Youth in Development Work (DBKP) from the Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) graduated in a convocation ceremony hosted by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London recently.
The Dean of FPP, Prof. Dr. Aida Suraya Md. Yunus said the DBKP programme has been offered by the faculty since 1999 to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers or equivalent, especially for youths with three to five years of working experience.
"It is unique that UPM is the only university in ASEAN that has been entrusted by the Commonwealth Secretariat headquartered in London, United Kingdom to offer the programme," she said.
She also said that the programme is held for two to three years in UPM which aimed at enhancing professionalism of youth workers as well as youth development focuses on lifelong learning.
Graduates from the programme received two certificates, namely a Diploma in Youth in Development Work from UPM and a Diploma in Youth Development Work from the Commonwealth Youth Program (CYP) in London.
A diploma awarded by CYP signifies the international recognition on the quality of graduates produced by UPM.
Other universities which offer the DBKP programme include the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia; University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom; Mahatma Ghandhi University, India; University of South Pacific; University of West Indies (UWI), and University of South Africa, Africa. - UPM
