SERDANG, March 22: Graduates must continuously strive to enhance their knowledge and skills even after getting a job, said Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Pro-Chancellor, Academician Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim.

He said getting a job does not mean that the learning process has stopped.

"Make today’s success a platform to provide a meaningful contribution to the formation of society and the building of human civilisation, which is of better quality, integrity and synergy, with the environment," he said in his speech at Session 4, UPM 45th Convocation Ceremony here today.

He also said the graduates need to excel holistically and equally in all aspects and not just excel in academic achievement alone towards becoming quality graduates as desired by the country.

He said graduates needed to have knowledge, morals, attitude, mindset and manner towards becoming noble, trustworthy and dignified human beings.

"If this university can produce graduates as human beings and not based on human capital alone, this is UPM's biggest contribution in its efforts to transform the country," he said.

He also hoped the graduates would not forget the sacrifices of their parents and families, which became the pillars of their success today.

"Without them, who are we," he said.

He said graduates' success could also be a catalyst for them to make significant contributions to their families, communities and countries regardless of the field they were involved in. - UPM.
