SERDANG, Oct 10 -  Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)’s string of successes continues when its Agriculture Science subject is ranked the world’s top 67th in the Performance  Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities 2016 as released by National Taiwan University (NTU) today.

On the whole, the subject ranking places UPM in 229th spot in the world in the field of agriculture.

Its position in the ranking goes up by three notches against 70th in 2015.

Another subject which has shown improvement in position by UPM is Chemical Engineering which is ranked 154th compared to 184th last year.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris said UPM’s outstanding performance was supported by three main criteria - Research Productivity (25%), Research Impact (35%) and Research Excellence (40%) that made up eight measurement indicators.

"This ranking assessment is done using information obtained from Essential Science Indicator (ESI). More than 4000 research institutions are listed in ESI.

"A total of 900 top universities are shortlisted based on publication of articles and number of citations.

"Besides shortlisting those excellent universities in ESI, this ranking also takes into consideration those universities which have excelled in other rankings such as ARWU, THE, QS and U.S News," she said.

Prof Datin Paduka Dr. Aini  also said the final evaluation was carried out using information obtained from ISI, ESI and Web of Science Core Collection (WOS), including SCI, SSCI and Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
