SERDANG – The Chapter Alumni Yosh Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has collaborated with the College Representative Council of Pendeta Za'ba College and Persatuan Anak Negeri Terengganu (PAKAT UPM) to continue the Ramadan bonding programme - Yosh Special Iftar and Gotong-Royong Bubur Lambuk (Rice Porridge) Distribution.
This is the second programme of Chapter Alumni Yosh UPM and MyFundAction to sponsor food for special iftar to the frontliners and students on campus during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year's programme is more special as it was held on May 1 coincided with the Labour Day celebration, which is also gratitude expressed indirectly from Yosh UPM to the frontliners in carrying out their duties for the well-being of the public.
The programme aimed to inculcate volunteerism and care among students to the frontliners and fill the time during Ramadan with beneficial activities.
Programme Director, Muhammad Iqmal Haris, said 1,000 sets of bubur lambuk were provided in the gotong-royong activity with students together with 1,000 Iftar Special Packs contributed by MyFundaction. The gotong-royong was conducted in compliance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
"The bubur lambuk distributed to the frontliners are also equipped with a set of Pak Atta rendang and dates from JAWI Food Bank," he said.
The distribution of bubur lambuk and the Special Iftar was officiated by the UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Arifin Muhammad Abdu, together with the MyFundaction Chief Executive, Muhamaaf Afiq Mohmad Nazari and Principal of the Pendeta Za'ba College, UPM, Dr. Mohd Hafiz Mohd Zaid.
Prof. Dr. Arifin said the programme was an initiative of Chapter Alumni Yosh UPM, Pendeta Za'ba College and Persatuan Anak Negeri Terengganu to enliven the month of Ramadan.
The programme was also a social responsibility of the alumni towards UPM community members.
"Today's initiative is an appreciation for the services and sacrifices of frontliners who served the country in curbing the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.
"In addition to the appreciation to the frontliners, bubur lambuk and special Iftar packs are also given to students who stay on campus as represented by their respective College Presidents," he said.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Afiq said MyFundaction would like to share the blessings in this sacred month with the frontliners who face countless challenges in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and students who stay on campus.
