By: Nurul Ezzaty Mohd Azhari

SERDANG, Mar 1 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has held the Mindset Transformation Programme Series 1/2022, better known as Program Transformasi Minda (PTM), for new staff as one of the conditions for confirmation of service, replacing the Induction Course held before this.

The workshop was held in hybrid form (face-to-face and online – Zoom) with about 26 participants and took place for 10 days, starting from February 21 to March 1, 2022.

Director of the Centre for Corporate Strategy and Relations, UPM, Prof. Dr. Azmawani Abd Rahman, who was also one of the speakers, said the programme exposed new lecturers to be open-minded and plan their career path in UPM.

“PTM is also carried out to cultivate one’s identity and become the promotional agent to elevate UPM’s name and expertise to the global level,” she said.

In addition, UPM Registrar, Muhazam Mansor, said the objective of the programme was to provide exposure to new staff on the concept of nationhood, principles and philosophies of nation-building as well as the government administration system.

“This programme was also held to cultivate the value of patriotism in officers so that they are more polished and capable in adapting to Civil Service. Apart from that, this programme focused on the value of excellent work culture so that officers can deliver services efficiently and effectively,” he said.

Meanwhile, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Design and Architecture, Dr. Mohd Fabian Hasna, who is one of the PTM participants, said the sharing sessions provided a lot of new knowledge about UPM, including the direction of the university.

Another participant, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Muhammad Syameer How Mohd Firdaus How, expressed his contentment after attending the PTM and hoped that he would be able to contribute to research at UPM.

“Before this, I felt that the information about UPM was vague and only received information from seniors. But after listening to the briefing on the direction of UPM, I am more aware of UPM’s strategic plan for the next five years,” he explained.

It is hoped that the exposure gained from this programme will help UPM academics be better prepared to carry out their services at UPM and generate added value in daily tasks. - UPM
