CYBERJAYA – A group of Bachelor of Software Engineering students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) won third place in 3 Days Of Code and Hackathon 2019 held recently at Multimedia University.
The students, Chan Yung Keat, Lee Jin Wee, Low Kah Yin, and Liew Cui Ling received a cash prize of RM500.
The group leader, Chan Yung Keat, who is also a third-year student from FCSIT, said that the winning idea was an innovation for a system which is able to detect cyberbullying actions by using Machine Learning to track comments that contain the meaning of the word bully.
The name of the contested system was 'No More Bully'.
The system will display cyberbullying cases in a web application. The authority such as parents and counsellors are able to check on students who are involved in cyberbullying cases through this web application.
The competition was organised by the IT Society, Multimedia University (MMU) and held at MMU, Cyberjaya from 19 to 21 April. The participants were allotted 36 hours to pitch their ideas.
The objective of the competition was to measure the students’ programming and problem-solving skills concerning the scope of Education, Finance and Transportation.
The competition involved undergraduates from public and private institutions of higher learning in various fields throughout Malaysia. - UPM
