SERDANG, 23 Sept – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) rugby team, Serdang Angels, defended its title at the Super 8 Rugby Championship IPT 2018 as it scored an easy win over its arch rival, the UiTM Lions, 30-12, in the final match of the championship at UPM Stadium.
The victory retained UPM Serdang Angels’ domination as the champion for the fifth consecutive year since the tournament was introduced in 2014.
UPM team, made up of seven national players, did not face any difficulty to claim triumph for the 2018 edition.
The first try from UPM Serdang Angels came from its forward player, Mohd Nurazman Ramli, as early as the fourth minute, followed by a second try by Wan Izzudin in the 13th minute.
The following scores for UPM Serdang Angels were the result of a conversion by Mohd Faizal Tahir, followed by tries by Mohamad Syarif Saiful Azwan Sudin and Faat Hor Rozi Ismail.
Two tries from UiTM Lions were made by Luqman Nurhakim while a conversion was made by Mohamad Fais.
The UPM Serdang Angels bagged RM5,000 prize money and a round trophy.
UPM Serdang Angels player, Mohamad Khairil Abdilah, was crowned as the Man of the Match, Mohamad Syarif Saiful Azwan Sudin as the Best Forward while Faat Hor Rozi Ismail was named as the Best Backline.
Prizes were presented by the Deputy Secretary General (Education Development), Mohamad Azhan Md Amir.
Eight teams competed in the Super 8 Rugby Championship IPT 2018, i.e. the UPM Serdang Angels, Uitm Lions, Politeknik Malaysia, UM Blues, UniKL Rugby, MASKOM Eagles, UTP Drillers and IIUM Mustangs. The championship was held from 17 to 23 September in UPM. - UPM
