SERDANG, March 8 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has received a courtesy visit from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) delegates to collaborate on improving the financial literacy between UPM students and staff.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, said PTPTN not only assists students by providing study loans but, together with the university, supports student development for the benefit of students.

"This collaboration is hoped to create awareness on ways to save money for the future generation as well as to support student development and generate awareness in borrowers," he said.

PTPTN Chief Executive, Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid, said the visit might help UPM students to do smarter financial planning.

“This financial planning helps in terms of PTPTN loan repayment or financial saving planning in the future after graduation.

"PTPTN as an education fund can help borrowers or students in terms of personality development as to repay their loans for the benefits of future generations," he said.

Also present were UPM Head of Student Affairs Division (BHEP), Nuruliman Ibrahim, PTPTN Chief Operating Officer, Mastura Mohd Khalid, and PTPTN Selangor’s State Office General Manager and Chief Executive Special Officer, Aizat Faiz Zainal.

Previously, PTPTN had reported a total of 539,284 borrowers who did not make any repayment as of September 30.

Ahmad Dasuki added that every repayment by a former student could support PTPTN to provide loans to new students.

At the same time, PTPTN also gave an awareness briefing on the importance of doing financial planning through early savings such as SSPN during the visit. - UPM
