SERDANG, March 11 - The Department of Food Service and Management, Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FSTM), UPM, and the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN) have organised the Muslim Foodpreneur @ Foodservice FSTM 2022 Programme for the first time in collaboration with the Centre of Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability (CEM).
A total of 20 participants took part in the programme comprised of asnaf students from FSTM and other faculties at UPM.
The programme aimed to equip asnaf UPM students with business knowledge in food service and develop entrepreneurial skills among them.
Programme Director, Dr. Noor Azira Abdul Mutalib, said the programme was able to increase students' creativity as well as to provide added value to students to increase the marketability of UPM students.
“The main goal of this programme is to produce graduates who have an entrepreneurial mindset and culture and are competent in aspects of business management.
"The programme offers learning modules covering three aspects, namely entrepreneurship, food service management, and culinary," she said.
WAZAN Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Daud Awang, said the programme was one of WAZAN's important initiatives to shape and produce students to become competitive entrepreneurs in the future.
"I hope programme as such will be continued in the future and at the same time it can become a career aspiration in the world of entrepreneurship among students as well as to empower asnaf students," he said.
Meanwhile, the students had the opportunity to carry out an internship at L’Apprenti’s kitchen to learn and create their own products, such as bread, biscuits, and western cuisine. - UPM
