Penang, November 5 - Four teams from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), represented by students from the Faculty of Engineering (FK), have created fond memories when they won the championship, runner-up and third place in the Industry-University Challenge 2022.
The UPM_AMT team made of third-semester students of the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Honours, Wong Chee Kin, Lee Kwen Wai and Chai Rong Qian, and they were announced as the winner of the Smart Retail Supermarket (i-Trolley) category taking home a prize of three laptop computers, Microsoft Surface Laptop Go.
For the Smart Disaster Relief – Flood category, UPM, represented by the Brain Drain group with Integrated Flood Assist System Technology (i-FAST), won the runner-up and took home a prize of five units of Xiaomi Projectors.
Meanwhile, for the same category, two teams, namely UPM_Beta and Lilac, won third place with their expandable Life-Saving Internet of Things Wristband (ELIOT), and each won a prize of nine units of Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen.
Senior Lecturer, FK, UPM, Dr. Luthffi Idzhar Ismail, who is also an advisor to the UPM_AMT team, said this competition provides a platform for participants to challenge themselves to generate innovative ideas and develop effective solutions.
"This program has successfully attracted the interest of many participants from universities and industry since it was launched in 2017 and organised by Intel in collaboration with the Catalyst for Malaysia's Technology Ecosystem (CREST).
"Thus, we would like to express our appreciation to UPM, INTEL, CREST and all the judges for the opportunity and support for the victory these four teams have achieved," he said.
The Industry-University Challenge 2022 is a national innovation challenge established in 2017 to focus on the innovation of Smart Retail, City and Industrial Solutions using Internet of Things technology (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
