By Siti Nur Amanina Nazri

SERDANG, Sept 27 – School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) organised the UPM@Desa Serdang Digital Knowledge programme to provide early education on the development of information technology and communication at secondary school and university level in accordance to philosophy 5.0.

The programme is a community network programme among SGS, UPM and the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Desa Serdang.

Minister Gobin Singh Deo said that the use of technology not only plays a role in communication but also in economy, and it could change lives and interaction worldwide.

“With technological advancements in this digital age, our country is at par with other developing countries especially in the economic sector, which enables students to keep abreast with the latest ICT developments through the Industrial Revolution (IR4.0),” he said.

He would like the society to check the authenticity of information received by visiting the ‘Sebenarnya.my’ site, a one-stop centre run by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Dean of SGS, UPM, Prof. Dr. Robiah Yunus, said that she hopes the programme would be a catalyst for a more systematic effort and increase awareness of the importance of information technology and communication knowledge at all levels.

“Various new technologies will help increase understanding towards information that can be conveyed and increase knowledge and literacy among school and university students,” she said.

The UPM @ Desa Serdang Digital Knowledge programme gained the collaboration of the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN), University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC), Cancer Resource and Education Centre (CaRE), International Students’ Association (UPMISA), Student Representative Council (MPP), MyFreeview and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM). - UPM
