UPM committed to being a leading green campus university

By: Nazrul Rapail

SERDANG, Nov 24 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is committed to improving its performance as the leading green campus in the country, said its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman.

In this regard, he said UPM would continue to support the agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with full cooperation from its campus community.

The success of UPM, which is being ranked the 28th in the UI-GreenMetric World University Rankings in 2021 and 2022, third in Asia and first in Malaysia, is in line with the aspirations of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNSCD). The United Nations (UN) aims to close the poverty gap and protect the earth and ensure that by 2030, everyone can enjoy peace and prosperity through the agenda for SDGs.

Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said the aim of the SDGs by the UN was based on three main principles to achieve good governance, namely effective, accountable and inclusive.

He said effective administration is measured through the achievements attained by an organisation, and it offers well-being to staff and stakeholders.

“The well-being leads to a positive and harmonious environment which in turn helps improve the quality of work, services and education,” he said.

He said accountability focuses on the attitude of individual responsibility towards the organisation, which involves trust and integrity. At the same time, inclusiveness is important in unifying the community because no one should be marginalised due to differences in gender or status.

He said the agenda for SDGs is comprehensive as it emphasises many aspects, including economic growth, social development and environmental protection. - UPM
