SERDANG, Oct 30 – National Radio News Malaysia (RTM) news reader, Iffah Mohd Hazim said her interest in learning about the media industry and her involvement in it had encouraged her to always give her utmost best to successfully complete her studies in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Iffah, 27, was conferred with a Bachelor of Communication’s degree at the 42nd UPM Convocation Ceremony today.
The youngest of five siblings, Iffah started her education in the field of interior designing at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) before graduating from the Arts Foundation programme in SEGi College and University of Kota Damansara. She then pursued an undergraduate degree programme majoring in broadcasting at UPM.
Being actives in the management of events outside of UPM sometimes restrict her from participating in activities at her college, faculty and the university.
"I stayed on campus for only one semester. I had a very limited time due to my participation in off-campus activities such as being a freelance Master of Ceremony (MC), host, party planner and singer.
"So, the limited free time that I had was used for attending classes and completing assignments given by lecturers," she said. She acknowledges that hosting is the field that she focused on while singing was treated more as a hobby.
Her seven-year experience as a show host was one of the pull factors that had enabled her to start her career with RTM after a successful interview with the Planet Sports programme. The opportunity to do her practical training in RTM for five months was fully utilised to gain knowledge.
She said that her mother and father were among the greatest sources of inspiration in her life.
"My father, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduate, is the source of my passion. Meanwhile, my mother, a former teacher, has helped me tremendously and is the source of my strength," she added. She hopes to continue her master’s studies in Corporate Communications next year. - UPM
