SERDANG, Dec 10 – A total of 108 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), who had achieved excellent results for the 2019/2020 academic session, are celebrated online in the Appreciation Ceremony for Excellent Students in the Physics Department (MAKeF2020).
The appreciation ceremony, which was usually held physically, was conducted online on the “Physics Student Club (KMF) UPM” Facebook page using Streamyard as a live streaming platform.
It was conducted by the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, UPM, in collaboration with the Physics Student Club (KMF) and was transformed into an online ceremony for the first time.
The ceremony was led by KMF Adviser, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yap Wing Fen, Dr. Nor Kamilah Saat as well as the Organising Committee, is intended to encourage students from the Department of Physics to keep striving for excellent CGPA every semester.
“Nobody thought that this award ceremony could also be held online. Upon the creativity and innovation with the KMF exco, we were able to conduct this creative and greatly impactful award ceremony successfully,” says Dr Yap.
Among the awards given are the Academic Excellence Award, Quantum Leap Award, Head of Department Special Award, Graduate Journal Publication Award, Physics Exemplary Graduate Award, Professor Zainal Abidin Talib Award, Professor Abdul Halim Shaari Award and Professor Sidek Ab Aziz Award.
Head of the Department of Physics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriati Paiman, motivated the students in the Department of Physics to achieve excellent CGPA by an inspiring talk and urged the students not to forget the obligation of being a student in UPM.
Five award recipients who also contributed to the programme are Bachelor of Science with Education (Hons) major in Physics 3rd Year Student, Goh Yong Shen; Bachelor of Science with Education (Hons) major in Physics 2nd Year Student, Khaled Saufi Raisin; Bachelor of Science (Hons) major in Materials Science 3rd Year Student, Fatin Nadhirah Binti Rozman; Bachelor of Science (Hons) major in Instrumentation Science Final Year Student, Ku Ikmal Bin Ku Azman; as well as the recipient of the Professor Sidek Ab Aziz Award, Bachelor of Science (Hons) major in Instrumentation Science 3rd Year Student, Habibuzzikri Ajeman.
They shared time management tips as well as effective learning methods to achieve academic excellence. The sharing session had provided benefits and inspiration to the students to strive for excellence in academic, curricular and leadership.
Director of MAKeF2020, Muhammad Zamri Kariming, said the country's COVID-19 pandemic situation was not an obstacle for him and his friends to learn how to conduct such a grand ceremony using the latest technology.
MAKeF2020 also had a special performance from Bachelor of Science (Hons) major in Physics 1st Year Student, Muhammad Syafi Haziq Mohd Fauzi.
Bachelor of Science (Hons) major in Materials Science 3rd Year Student, Izyan Fatihah Abdul Fatah, said even though the ceremony was held online, it managed to encourage her to study during the first-semester break.
“After witnessing MAKeF2020, I am encouraged to increase my CPGA even though I have been staying at home for nine months,” she said.
