KPT-UPM volunteers assist flood victims in Pahang

 

MARAN, Jan 12 — Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has transferred more than 100 staff and students from UPM Serdang campus on a KPT-UPM volunteer mission to Kg. Kuala Sentul, Maran, Pahang to help ease flood victims' burden in several affected areas there.

The mission was led by the Head of UPM Student Affairs Division, Nuruliman Ibrahim, and accompanied by the Head of UPM Student Housing and Placement Management Section, Mohamed Shukri Mohamed Noor, UPM Student Representative Council (MPP), Alif Akmal, MPP representative, Fera Novianti, UPM staff and fellows.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Roslan Sulaiman, expressed his gratitude to the staff and students involved in the mission and hoped that the service rendered could relieve the flood victims.

"I hope the assistance extended to the flood victims could help them in some extent, and it is hoped that the empathy given by UPM staff and students will be continued to enhance further the culture of caring in dealing with natural disaster crisis in Malaysia," he said.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Prof. Dr Arifin Abdu, said the volunteering mission focused on providing financial assistance, supplying daily necessities and cleaning housing areas severely affected by the flood.

“The mission is one of the platforms that can provide opportunities for UPM staff and students to serve the community and society, in addition to responding to the call from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to produce future graduates with grit who could be involved with similar missions and programmes as such,” he said.

Various equipment for cleaning work was brought from UPM to help the flood relief activities. - UPM
