Increase awareness of occupational safety and health

SERDANG, April 16 — UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris, urged all Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) staff to continue cultivating awareness of occupational safety and health to prevent serious accidents in the university.

She said that when officiating the Occupational Health and Safety Week (MKKP-UPM), and participated in the simulation of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) DIMEX 3.0 at UPM.

“All the programmes and activities carried out during the Occupational Health and Safety Week were to fulfil the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984, and other related acts,” she said.

The MKKP, organised by the Occupational Safety and Health Management Office, UPM, put emphasis on the prevention of occupational accidents and illnesses. The theme was “Psychosocial Hazards at the Workplace”.

The celebration was held from 13 to 19 April in conjunction with World Day for Safety and Health at Work (WDSHW), which is being observed across the globe on 28 April by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

WDSHW aims to commemorate the victims of industrial accidents and occupational illness by trade unions worldwide.

The simulation of BCP DIMEX 3.0 was an exercise to test the BCP manual, Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and Crisis Communication Plan (CCP). It started off with an explosion and fire drill simulation at the Data Centre, iDEC Beta, UPM, followed by an activation of the emergency action.
