SERDANG, March 20: Graduates must be professional, ethical, and trustworthy in any job pursuit, said Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman.
He said they also need to constantly be careful and responsible in any of their action because they are the ones who will inherit the country and protect its civilisation.
In that regard, he said, Ihsan is ingrained as the main constituent of the noble values of humanity is very important to be appreciated.
"The broader the value of Ihsan in a person, the higher the value of integrity that will manifest through their attitudes and actions," he said while giving his speech in Session 2, 45th UPM Convocation Ceremony here today.
In the session, UPM Pro-Chancellor, His Royal Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah conferred the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master's degrees, Bachelor's degrees, and Diplomas to 1,022 graduates.
Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Roslan said to realise that noble aspiration, UPM had put in efforts in producing graduates who are resilient to future challenges as one of the main goals in the UPM Strategic Plan 2021-2025 launched last year.
He said the UPM initiative would be mobilised through several approaches, among which the effort to produce competent and competitive students at the global level and strengthen the identity, unity, and patriotism of students in line with the national aspirations.
"All in all, students who are provided with academic excellence and character development are not only able to be distinguished individuals but also will be able to lead the call of Al-Falah, which moves coherently towards success together," he said.
He said having the characteristics of the graduates desired by UPM, they could be agents of change and heroes of humanity to the community and the whole society towards the well-being of life, leading to the success of this world and hereafter.
“UPM remains and always ensures that the personality and development of all students become the main agenda in the pursuit of success. This is because individuals who achieve academic success will be distinguished by having a good personality, morals, and admirable characteristics,” he said. - UPM.
