KUALA KLAWANG, Sept 6 – A group of lecturers from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), led by the Head of the Department of Multimedia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatimah Khalid, visited UPM adopted school, MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) Kuala Klawang, here.
The half-day visit was one of the community projects carried out by the faculty to expose students to the latest updates in technology. A total of five lecturers and a postgraduate student took part in the visit.
MRSM Kuala Klawang, represented by its technology teacher, Mastini Masood, invited FKSTM for a knowledge sharing session on the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in conjunction with the school science festival.
The talk, titled “IR 4.0 – How that will change your future lifestyle and future jobs” was presented by Dr. Hizmawati Madzin at the Main Hall of the school. The talk was attended by approximately 200 Form 1 and Form 2 students.
The talk instilled awareness among the students on their readiness to face the changes in the field of technology and education resulting from the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
The talk stressed that students should embrace the three learning concepts, ‘learn, relearn and unlearn’, and they need to be able to understand the knowledge learnt and be smart in applying the knowledge in new situations.
In addition, the students should fully embrace the learning of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to remain competitive and be able to adapt to the rapid changes in technology so that they can secure a successful career in the future.
The lecturers also toured the selected science innovation exhibition done by Form 2 students.
A total of 20 science innovations were contested. These were the students’ original ideas in solving issues around them.
The visit inspired and aspired the students to move forward and prepare themselves to face the challenging world of technology.
As a follow-up of the visit, MRSM Kuala Klawang has agreed to conduct more joint activities and programmes with FKSTM, including workshops on video production, animation and development of mobile applications in the future. - UPM
