SERDANG, August 29 – A total of 126 athletes from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will become stiff competition to participants taking part in the Statutory Bodies Sports Carnival (SUKANUN) 2023 at UiTM Perlis, scheduled from September 3 to September 9, 2023.
UPM Vice Chancellor, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, expressed confidence that UPM athletes will take on this challenge and are prepared to shoulder the responsibility entrusted by the entire UPM community.
He said UPM will compete in 10 events and aims to defend the gold medal in the Women's Petanque.
"These 10 events include Football 9s, Women's Futsal, Women's Sepak Takraw, Sepak Takraw Regu, Women's Tenpin Bowling, Men's Petanque, Women's Petanque, Indoor Hockey, Team Table Tennis, and Criterium Cycling.
"I have high hopes that UPM will make surprising achievements and attain excellence in this championship," he said during the SUKANUN 2023 UPM Contingent Flag Handover Ceremony at Dewan Taklimat Serdang today.
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of mental and physical preparedness among UPM athletes to ensure the institution becomes a tough competition in every sport.
"The opportunities ahead must be seized to prove that UPM staff athletes are university staff who can also contribute to the national sports landscape," he added. - UPM
