SERDANG, 1 Dis – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) emerged as the winner for the Zapin Festival of the Malaysian Universities Cultural Council (MAKUM) 2018.This is the fourth time that UPM has won the competition.
UPM, which was represented by a dance group from ADIMASTULI Dance Club, UPM, also won the Best Arrangement Award at the festival. They brought home RM3,250 in cash prize and a round trophy.
The fourth winning has sealed UPM’s prowess in Zapin.
Eleven public universities took part in the competition which was held at the Great Hall, PKKSSAAS, UPM.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) won the second place and brought home RM2,000 cash along with an accompanying trophy while Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) won the third place and brought home RM1,000 and an accompanying trophy.
The prizes were given out by Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), UPM.
The competition was judged by three professional judges specially invited from ASWARA and Istana Budaya.
The Zapin Festival was jointly organised by UPM and MAKUM and attracted audience among the alumni, the locals and dance activists.
