NATIONAL STEM PROGRAMME INSPIRED BY THE AL-QUR?€?AN BEING HELD ONLINE

SERDANG, August 18 - 203 students from secondary schools nationwide have participated in an E-Poster competition at the national level with the theme of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Inspired by the Al-Quran 2020, which was hosted by the Faculty of Educational Studies (FPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with the National STEM Centre, Ministry of Education Malaysia, Johor State Education Department and STEM Association of Johor.

The main objective of this competition is to encourage appreciation of STEM concept through recitation and translation of the Al-Quran and sharing of ideas related to STEM via e-posters derived from the contents of the Al-Quran.

 

The Closing Ceremony and Winner Announcement for this competition was officiated by Dr. Azhar Ahmad, Director of Educational Planning and Research Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia (BPPDP, KPM).

The closing ceremony was live streamed online from Putra Future Classroom, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia.

The programme was held from 16 June to 18 August and led by Dr. Nurzatulshima Kamarudin, Chief of the STEM Task Force, FPP, UPM, who had received great participation from school students even though the country is still under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) enforcement period due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ten winners were announced as Mumtaz (excellent), 10 Jayyid Jiddan (very good), and 80 other participants were announced as Jayyid (consolation) in this programme. Other than that, Special Award for School with Active Participation, Excellent Guidance Teacher and Poster ‘Gemilang’ were also announced by Dr. Ihsan Ismail from the National STEM Centre.

37 judges of the e-posters are made up of a panel of lecturers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM). Also involved in the judging is a panel of judges from the Johor State Education Department, Pertubuhan Pusat Inspirasi Ummah, and excellent teachers from selected secondary schools. TF STEM FPP UPM will select some of the best e-posters from this competition to be compiled as a part of the STEM teaching aids. – UPM
