SERDANG - The COVID-19 pandemic has not affected the cooperative relationships between the Institute for Mathematical Research (INSPEM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Politecnico di Torino, Italy, to continue activities under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
One of the activities under the MoU is a graduate student exchange programme between the two institutions.
Since 2017, INSPEM had been sending INSPEM graduate students to several mobility programmes abroad, including Italy, Germany and China.
The programme is a good platform for students to gain experience of studying and conducting research abroad.
The experience gained will become a driver in the success of their respective studies and open up more networking and research collaborations in the future for students and INSPEM.
This year, INSPEM doctoral student Tea Bon Chian attended the mobility programme (outbound) at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, from March 1 to July 24, 2021.
He said the mobility programme enabled students to learn about foreign cultures and gain knowledge in their respective fields.
“Through the programme as such, I am grateful for the advantages and facilities provided and can train myself to be more disciplined in life,” he said.
The student’s supervisor at INSPEM, UPM, is Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rezal Kamel Ariffin, and he is on a research attachment programme under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Danilo Bazzanella at Polito using the Erasmus+ grant.
The student participated in various programmes throughout the mobility programme, including presenting in online seminars entitled Efficient Security Mediated Encryption and Identity-Based Encryption Schemes Based on ElGamal Variant on May 6 and Coppersmith’s Method: Solutions to Modular Polynomials on June 22.
Exposure to a new environment will enable students to develop their social interaction skills globally and enrich their learning experience.
Such benefits provide students with various new value-added skills to their existing knowledge and skills as members of the global community who play a role in the international arena.
Students who participate in mobility programmes will become the catalyst for sustainable scientific research that will benefit religion, race and country. - UPM
