SERDANG - Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Academician Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim urges UPM to produce high quality graduates with good values beyond merely emphasising on human capital.

He said graduates of high quality as aspired by the nation should excel not only in academic, but also excel holistically as a person and balanced in all aspects.

“Graduates who possess knowledge, moral values and the right attitudes, mindset and manners, are vital in producing honourable and dignified individuals.

"This is in line with the concept of Ihsan, the pillar of excellence for UPM that emphasises on quality, perfection and excellence," he said when addressing the third session of UPM's 43rd Convocation Ceremony today.

He also urged graduates to continue pursuing knowledge, and the learning process should not end when they start working.

“Continue your efforts to increase self-knowledge and skills. Make today's success a platform for a meaningful contribution to the building of a society and civilisation of higher quality, integrity and in sync with the environment,” he said.

He also expressed his hope that graduates would not forget the sacrifices made by their parents and families that have helped them achieve their success.

"Without them, we are nothing. I believe today's success can be a catalyst for graduates to make a meaningful contribution to their families, communities and the country, in any field they choose to be,” he said. - UPM
