TUESDAY, Oct 17 - CanMERDEKA's career carnival programme was participated by employers who put forth more than 500 job offers specifically for cancer patients who had lost their jobs. This provide them with an opportunity to return to employment.
This unique programme, aimed at helping cancer patients to obtain employment opportunities, was organised by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with the Cancerfly Cancer Prevention Association, Cancer Resource and Education Center (CaRE, UPM), and JobsMalaysia.
Dengkil, Selangor State Assemblyman, Adhif Syan Abdullah, said that the programme has had a positive impact especially with the merger of various organisations working together to help the society.
"I suggest that more collaborations between stakeholders be established through the creation of more programmes involving both the government and private agencies," he said during the launch of the CanMERDEKA career carnival programme.
He hoped that such honourable efforts will continue, and more groups will be organising such programmes in other places to help cancer patients find employment.
Dean of FPSK, Professor Dr. Zamberi Sekawi, said the CanMERDEKA career carnival is part of the tertiary prevention, which is one of the three stages of health prevention. The other two stages are primary and secondary, which include awareness campaigns and health screenings.
He hoped that through the CanMERDEKA career carnival, cancer patients would be given job opportunities, enabling to support themselves and their families. - UPM
