SERDANG, 23 Feb - The Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris called for the entire university community and stakeholders to appreciate UPM values of belonging and to view it through the context of prosperity to ensure that UPM continues to excel in the future.
She said, the values of belonging, namely excellence, diversity, sustainability, integrity and moral values practised will act as a guide in taking any actions in life, which would have an impact on prosperity.
“In our effort to drive excellence in UPM, we should not forget our final goal, which is prosperity. Excellence will not be complete without prosperity,” she said while delivering the 2018 New Year Message to UPM staff and students, here.
Hence, she said, the theme for this year’s message is ‘Ihsan dan Kesejahteraan Melangkaui 2025’ (Courtesy and Prosperity into 2025 and Beyond) was highly relevant as it carried a very clear message to ensure prosperity for UPM community and the society in general.
“Do remember that it is only with prosperity that we are able to work, serve and contribute to a more sustainable development of UPM,” she said.
Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini added that all UPM staff and students bore the responsibility to successfully implement the Pelan Transformasi UPM Melangkaui 2025 (UPM Transformation Plan into 2025 and Beyond) which would ensure the continuation of the university’s legacy of excellence.
Therefore, she added, feedback, ideas and improvements from all university community are most welcome.
According to her, the year 2025 will be a crucial year for UPM year because it would become the point of departure for UPM to continue building its glorious future despite the current challenges.
“The era beyond 2025 is very critical because contributions made by UPM will not only be meaningful in its context as the garden of knowledge and thinking, but also in fulfilling the requirements of the 2025 National Transformation plan,” she said.
Hence, she said, UPM needs to take a governant transformation leap through new business models that are more independent and sustainable.
She said, as a research university, UPM carries the nation’s trust to contribute beyond the university boundary for the prosperity of the society and the interest of the nation.
She expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the Sarawak State Government for its continuous support towards UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) which mission is to be an important higher learning institution in the region that contributes to the development of an ntellectual surrounding, energy source and socioeconomy in Bintulu and Sarawak.
She also conveyed appreciation and gratitude to the Minister of Higher Learning Education, Dato’ Seri Jusoh for his trust to appoint her as the Vice Chancellor for another two years. - UPM
