SERDANG - The staff badminton squad from the Faculty of Engineering has proved its superiority in winning the third edition of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Team Badminton Championships held at the Multipurpose Hall, UPM Sports Centre recently.
The Faculty of Engineering surprised the top seeded team, Sports Centre, at the final stage with a 2-1 victory. The format of the championships for this edition included Men's Singles, Mixed Doubles and Men's Doubles Open which managed to attract seven teams from UPM, namely Faculty of Agriculture & ITAFoS, IDeC & INTROP, Faculty of Human Ecology, UPM Teaching Hospital and UPM Alumni.
In the finals, the Faculty of Engineering won the Men's Singles and Men's Doubles Open events, while the Sports Centre stole the spotlight by defeating the mixed doubles team from the Faculty of Engineering. Third place was won by IDeC & INTROP, while the Faculty of Agriculture & ITAFoS took fourth place.
The uniqueness of the championships was that all players received trophies and certificates of participation contributed and presented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Ts. Dr. M. Iqbal Saripan.
Prof. Ts. Dr. M. Iqbal said in his speech that he hoped the championships would promote a healthy lifestyle to all UPM staff and alumni.
Also present at the event were Director of UPM Teaching Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Mohd Isa and Programme Director, Dr. Syari Jamian.
The Faculty of Engineering brought home the perpetual trophy cup, trophies and certificates of participation, while all teams received trophies. - UPM
