Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini visits UPM students in Johor

BATU PAHAT, Oct 2 – The Minister of Higher Education (MOHE), Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, has visited Muhammad Ilyas Mahmud Husni, student of the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with Honours, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), at the “Sentuhan Kasih Mahasiswa @ KPT Prihatin” programme around Parit Sulong, here.

Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini said the programme aimed to strengthen the welfare among the members of the Institutes of Higher Learning (IPTs) and MOHE and introduce the programme to the community by providing a platform to alleviate the financial burden of IPT students.

She also handed over the offer letters from UPM and loan advance payment (WPP) of RM200 from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), a laptop and My Brighter Future Scholarship donated by Yayasan Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

In addition, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini also visited 22 IPT students around Parit Sulong.

Also present at the event were the Director-General of Higher Education, Department of Higher Education (JPT), Dato' Prof. Dr. Husaini Omar, and the representatives from public universities (UA), including Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Pertahanan Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman, said UPM established the Putra Cakna initiative to help UPM students and staff affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Putra Cakna's initiative aims to improve the well-being of UPM students and staff in facing challenging situations and focus on well-being more comprehensively and inclusively," he said. - UPM
