SERDANG, Nov 16 – Aida Fitri Peli is the recipient of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal Award at the 43rd Convocation Ceremony in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She completed her family legacy when she received the degree from UPM today, and at the same time she made her own record of sort because her brother, sister and parents are all UPM graduates.
Aida, 22, a student of Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and president of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Student Representative Council (MPP) for the 2017/2018 academic year, received RM5000 in cash, a gold medal and a certificate, presented by UPM’s Chancellor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, during the first session of degree conferment ceremony at the 43rd Convocation Ceremony at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts & Cultural Centre in UPM here.
Aida is the youngest child of four siblings whose brother, sister and both her parents are UPM graduates.
“Alhamdulillah, I am thankful to be able to fulfil the wishes of my mother, Aishah Abdullah, who wanted me and all my siblings to obtain a degree, especially in UPM.
“My mother has a diploma, and she aspires her children to obtain a degree. That motivates me and I challenge myself to get one”, she said.
Aida added that her active involvement as president of the UPM MPP for the 2017/2018 academic year was not a barrier for her to be successful academically as she adhered to effective time management.
“There is no time for me to waste… in class I stay focused on studies as well as during revision”, she said.
When dealing with the council matters, she said that each task must be well executed.
“When people give us the opportunity and trust by choosing us to lead, the trust and responsibilities must be fulfilled properly”, she said. - UPM
